AKRON, Ohio — The Akron women's basketball team will begin a four-game road swing as they head to Virginia to face George Mason on Thursday, November 5 at 7 p.m.
The Zips are coming off a hard-fought, 75-74 loss to South Alabama in their season opener on Monday. Six different players made their Akron debuts, led by Cleveland State transfer Macey Fegan's 17 points and 12 rebounds. Shaena Brew scored 12 and Oklahoma State transfer Tyla Heard recorded 10.
GMU defeated Temple, 91-71, in their season opener on Monday at home. The Patriots used a 22-0 second quarter run to move from down 20-14 to ahead 36-20. Mary Amoateng notched 21 points, while four other Patriots scored in double figures. As a whole, George Mason shot 50.8% from the field, including 45.8% from downtown.
This will be the third meeting between the teams and first since 2013, when the Zips defeated the Patriots, 88-70, in Akron. The year prior, Akron bested GMU, 65-49.
