Akron Softball Ready for the Blue Raider Classic

The Akron Zips are back on the diamond at the Blue Raider Classic hosted by Middle Tennessee State on Friday through Sunday, Feb. 27-March 1 The Zips will open the tournament with MTSU and UT Martin on Friday, MTSU and UT Martin again on Saturday and UT Martin on Sunday.

Under fourth-year head coach Craig Nicholson, Akron enters the 30th season of intercollegiate competition in 2026. The Zips return 17 players from the 2025 squad and added six newcomers to the 2026 roster. Akron returns four All-MAC honorees. Earning First Team All-MAC accolades were outfielder Meagan Lee and infielder Sophia Wygast, while redshirt pitcher Madie Jamrog and outfielder Andrea Day were named to the All-MAC Freshman Team.

Akron opened the season 5-10 and defeated Illinois 9-2 last weekend. Akron owns a .253 team batting average, scoring 68 runs in 15 games with 97 hits, 27 extra-base hits and 11 homeruns. The Zips have two players hitting .300 or better including, Meagan Lee (.362, 17 of 47, 6 RBI, 4 2B) and Lily Sullivan (.333, 13 of 39, 2 2B, HR, 5 RBI), while Sydney Selker has a team-high three homeruns (10 RBI).

Lee leads the team in hits (17) and runs scored (10), while Sullivan follows in hits (13) and Selker leads the squad in extra-base hits with a three homeruns, a double and a triple. Sophia Wygast owns a team-high 11 RBI.

In the circle, Madie Jamrog leads the pitching staff with eight appearances and seven starts, She spent 41.2 innings in the circle, allowing 50 hits and 30 runs, 24 earned with 17 strikeouts (2.16 per game) and 4.03 ERA.

Zips Softball Picked to Finish Fourth in Preseason MAC Coaches' Poll
The Akron Zips were picked to finish fourth overall in league play in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Coaches' Poll, the MAC announced on Wednesday.

Akron received one first place vote and 93 points overall, while also receiving one vote to win the season finale MAC Tournament. Miami was selected as the overall favorite with eight first place votes (118 pts) and five votes as MAC Tournament Champion.
