CONWAY, S.C. --The Akron Zips broke-up a no-hitter and a shutout in the top of the fourth inning, scored two runs to tie the game in the sixth inning, but yhe Virginia Cavaliers answered with a run in the sixth and edged Akron 4-3 at the Kickin' Chicken Classic on Saturday.
Andrea Day unleashed a triple in the top of the fourth inning to break-up the no-no and proceeded to score when Katie Cantrell grounded into a fielder's choice for an RBI. Day finished the game batting 1 for 3, while the Zips received extra-base hits from Cantrell, Meagan Lee and Lily Sullivan.

All three players doubled in the top of the sixth inning to push two runs across the plate and tie the game 3-3. Lee unleashed the first double followed by an RBI double by Cantrell and an RBI double for Sullivan. Cantrell (2 for 3) drove in two runs for the Zips while Sullivan recorded the third RBI in a 1 for 2 effort at the plate. Lee was 1 for 4 and Brooke Sivek registered the Zips lone single in the seventh as Virginia held on for the win.
Madie Jamrog (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Akron (0-3), allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Day came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips deficit expanded to 3-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, tying the score in the sixth inning. Akron got run-scoring doubles from Cantrell and Sullivan to pick up a couple of runs, which evened the score at 3-3. Virginia then scored one time over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 4-3 win.
