Zips Take 7-4 Victory Over Toledo to Conclude Series

AKRON, Ohio - A trio of Zips recorded multiple hits while the Blue and Gold saw 6.1Â innings of scoreless relief effort from its bullpen to secure a 7-4 victory over Toledo on Sunday.
Brennan Morgan recorded two hits along with a pair of RBI while Gabe Mathison and Gio Melchione both notched two hits and one RBI each. Austin Lafferty launched a home run over the right field fence and scored twice.
Brady Bowen (3-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Akron (12-14, 5-7). Bowen went 4.1 shutout innings while giving up two hits, allowing no walks and striking out five. Floyd McKenna also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing two shutout innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout to earn the save.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run double off the bat of Mathison.
The Rockets then tied the ballgame at four before the Zips came back to reclaim their advantage in the fifth inning. Akron picked up two runs when a single from Morgan brought home Brody Chrisman and Blake Bowen, which brought the Zips lead to 6-4.
Akron kept Toledo scoreless before building their lead to 7-4 in the eighth inning. The score remained 7-4 for the rest of the game, as Akron held on for the win.
