Akron Battles Robert Morris in Key MAC Showdown

AKRON, Ohio – In a key Mid-American Conference showdown Akron will travel to Moon Township, Pa., to battle Robert Morris in a 1 p.m. tilt on Saturday (April 11).
ZIPS NAME TEAM CAPTAINS FOR 2026:
The Akron senior duo of Katie Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) and Sarah Baumer (Rochester, N.Y.) will serve as the Zips' captains for the 2026 campaign.
SCOUTING AKRON:
Junior Sienna Hinchcliffe (Rochester, N.Y.) leads the Zips in goals (51), points (67), shots (106), shots on goal (71) and ground balls (22), while ranking third in caused turnovers (10) and in draw controls (38). Katie Baumer is second on the team in goals (29). Senior Kellen Fletcher (Valencia, Pa.) paces the squad in assists (23), while junior Kaitlyn Sikorski (Plymouth, Minn.) ranks fourth with 15. Senior Heather Carey (Williamsville, N.Y.), ranks third on the squad in goals netting 27. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Adrianna Califano (Bellmore, N.Y.) has registered 75 saves, 20 ground balls and owns an 9.67 goals against average.
SCOUTING ROBERT MORRIS:
Akron is meeting Robert Morris for the 10th time in program history. The Colonials are 4-8 on the campaign, including 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference, following an 8-5 triumph over Kent State on April 4. Sophomore Mia Berthoff owns team-high totals in goals (22), points (31), shots (56) and shots on goal (39), while ranking second in assists (9) and draw controls (18). Freshman goalkeeper Lucy Carney and sophomore Katrina Bottomley have combined to collect 107 saves and 40 ground balls, respectively, en route to posting 11.63 goals against average. Robert Morris is led by third-year head coach Courtney Grove, who owns an 20-31 ledger as a head coach for the Colonials and is 152-133 in 17 years as a head coach.

A golden goal from Jaelyn Clinkscales with 14 seconds remaining in overtime propelled the Akron lacrosse team to its first ever Mid-American Conference Tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth with a come-from-behind 11-10 victory over Robert Morris in the league's title match on May 3, 2025, in Moon Township, Pa.
Picked to finish last in the MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Zips overcame a five-goal second-half deficit to force and overtime and set the stage for Clinkscales' game-winning goal in overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Akron garnered a game-high four goals from Clinkscales, including the game-winner to send the Zips to their first ever NCAA Tournament.
• Adding two goals apiece was Noelle Boyd and Sienna Hinchcliffe, while Katie Baumer, Kellen Fletcher and Kylie Harris each collected a goal.
• Goalkeeper Hannah Sanders (Massillon, Ohio) provided a key defensive effort for Akron with a game-high nine saves.
• Baumer was tabbed as the Tournament Most Valuable Player, while joining her on the All-Tournament team for the Zips was Boyd, Clinkscales, Hinchcliffe and Sanders.
• Fletcher dished out a game-high two assists for the Zips. Adding one assist each was Harris and Hinchcliffe.
• Boyd and Sanders each posted a team-high three ground balls, while Hinchcliffe corralled a game-best six draw controls.
• Boyd and Hinchcliffe led Akron with two caused turnovers apiece.
• Recording seven, six, five and five shots, respectively, was Boyd, Baumer, Clinkscales and Hinchcliffe.
AKRON PICKED TO FINISH SECOND IN MAC PRESEASON POLL:
The Mid-American Conference announced the 2026 Preseason Coaches' Poll on Feb. 4 as Akron was selected by the league's women's lacrosse coaches to finish second this season.
Conference newcomer Massachusetts (48 points, 6 first-place votes) was tabbed to capture the regular and postseason championships followed by Akron (37 points), Eastern Michigan (37), Robert Morris (34, 1 first-place vote), Central Michigan (28), Kent State (19), Youngstown State (12) and Detroit Mercy (9).
AKRON FALLS AT MASSACHUSETTS:
Sienna Hinchcliffe turned a dominate individual six-goal performance, but Massachusetts garnered an all-round team effort to post an 18-10 triumph over the Zips in a battle of Mid-American Conference lacrosse unbeaten teams on Saturday (April 4).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• One of the leading contenders for MAC Player of the Year honors, Hinchcliffe registered six goals on the strength of a career-high 12 shots, including nine on goal. She also contributed five draw controls, two caused turnovers and one ground ball for the Zips.
• Akron netted 10 goals in the match, a mark that equaled the combined total of the first three league opponents for Massachusetts.
• Katie Baumer added a pair of goals for Akron, while netting one tally apiece was Kellen Fletcher and Kaitlyn Sikorski.
• Baumer, Fletcher and Sikorski each collected an assist for the Zips.

Akron garnered a program-record four All-Mid-American Conference selections when the league unveiled its 2025 award winners in a vote of the league coaches.
Akron head coach Elaine Jones was recognized as the league's Coach of the Year as she led the Zips to their first ever MAC Regular Season title after the squad was picked to finish last in the preseason coaches' poll.
Noelle Boyd and Sienna Hinchcliffe headlined the Zips' award winners as the duo was selected as First-Team All-MAC honorees.
Pulling in Second-Team All-MAC laurels was Katie Baumer. Additionally, Julia Mattingly was tabbed to the MAC All-Freshman team.
