Zips Split Doubleheader, Wins Series 2-1 at UMass

Junior Madie Jamrog was dealing in game two on Saturday, tossing a five-hit shutout to lead the Akron Zips past the UMass Minutewomen 2-0.
Jamrog (11-6) went the distance for Akron (26-21, 17-4), giving up five hits, walking one and striking out one.
Offensively, the Zips were lead by Meagan Lee and Katie Cantrell, who both went 3-for-4 from the plate. Lee scored both runs for Akron, while Cantrell registered the Zips' lone RBI. Andrea Day added a 2-for-3 performance from the plate, while Haley Glass and Sophia Wygast also recorded hits.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Senior Meagan Lee came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips then tacked on a run in the seventh inning to complete their scoring in the ballgame.

The Akron Zips took a 4-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, but could not hold on as UMAss used a walk-off grandslam to secure the first game of the doubleheader 5-4Â on Saturday.
The Zips scored four runs on four hits as Delaney Jenkinson led the offense with a 2-for-2 performance from the plate, including a homerun, an RBI and two runs scored. Jenkinson also reached base with a walk. Meagan Lee and Kenzi Gatti added the additional hits as Lee delivered a double with two RBI and a run scored. Gatti also recorded a double, was walked and hit by a pitch.Â
Madie Jamrog (10-6) took the loss in the circle for Akron (25-21, 16-4) after Macy Walters left the game with a lower leg injury in the first inning.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Akron scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a senior Meagan Lee.
The Minutewomen failed to push any runs across before the Zips built on their lead in the seventh inning. Junior Delaney Jenkinson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 4-1. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as UMass scored four times in the bottom half of the seventh to grab the 5-4 win.
