Four Zips Notch Multiple Hits in Loss at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Four Akron players notched multiple hits, but the Zips fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes 19-7 Tuesday.
Easton Amundson led the offense with a 2-for-3 night, driving in three runs while collecting a home run and a double. Kelton Phillips went 2-for-4 with a double. Blake Bowen went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk while Gabe Mathison collected a pair of hits in four trips to the plate.
John Allen (1-3) got the ball to start for Akron (17-24) and took the loss. Parker Munday was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Easton Amundson put Akron on the board with a one-out solo home run off Sahil Patel.
The Buckeyes broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fourth inning, when the Zips got back on the scoreboard. Akron pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Amundson that brought home Blake Bowen and Brady Bowen, which tightened the Buckeyes lead to 7-3.
Ohio State expanded their lead to 11-3 before the Akron offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 11-7 in the sixth. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Henry Hayman. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Ohio State added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 19-7 final.
