WASHINGTON, D.C. - On Wednesday (June 10), Chairman Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Ranking Member Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) held a roundtable with coaches, student athletes, and university presidents to discuss the Protect College Sports Act, introduced earlier this month by Chairman Cruz, Ranking Member Cantwell, and Senators Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) and Chris Coons (D-Del.). University of Akron senior women's soccer goalkeeper and incoming president of the Mid-American Conference's Council of Student-Athletes (COSA), Sara Bower (Cincinnati, Ohio), spoke at the roundtable as a representative of the NA FBS Conferences.Â
Â
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to represent The University of Akron, the Mid-American Conference and NCAA student-athletes today at the College Sports Roundtable to discuss the Protect College Sports Act," said Bower. "It was an amazing experience to be surrounded by so many amazing individuals, who want the best for student-athletes, and the future of NCAA collegiate athletics."
Â
The discussion focused on the unique effects of instability, litigation, and financial pressure on student-athletes, women's and Olympic sports, HBCUs, and first-generation college students and schools outside the wealthiest tier.Â
