Akron Finishes Third at 2026 Rocket Classic

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The University of Akron women's golf team climbed the leaderboard during the final round of the 2026 Rocket Classic, securing a third-place finish with a 920 (+68) team total on Tuesday at Highland Meadows Golf Club.
The Zips entered Tuesday's final 18 holes in fourth place before carding a 311 (+27) to move up one spot on the team leaderboard. Akron posted rounds of 302 (+18), 307 (+23) and 311 (+27) during the two-day, 54-hole event.
Akron was paced by a pair of Top-10 finishers as Goethe Na Songkhla and Amara Montoya each finished tied for seventh overall with 228 (+15) tournament totals.
Na Songkhla made one of the biggest moves for the Zips during Tuesday's final round. After entering the day tied for 16th, she fired a 3-over par 74 to climb nine spots on the individual leaderboard and finish tied for seventh. Na Songkhla opened the tournament with rounds of 75 (+4) and 79 (+8) before closing with her best round of the event.
Montoya joined Na Songkhla in seventh after rounds of 79 (+8), 70 (-1) and 79 (+8). Her second-round 1-under par 70 marked Akron's low round of Monday afternoon and helped place her inside the Top 10 heading into the final round.
Sohniya Chandra Mohan also highlighted the tournament for the Zips after recording a hole-in-one during Monday's second round. Chandra Mohan aced the par-3 15th hole with a 6-iron after opening the tournament with a 1-under par 70.
Thitirat Silakham and Kaitlin Kormuth rounded out Akron's scoring lineup, while Katrin Horn Danielsdottir competed as an individual.
Akron's third-place showing marks a strong finish in the Zips' second tournament of the 2026-27 campaign.
Akron returns to the course Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22, for the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational hosted by Kentucky at Big Blue Course in Lexington, KY.
