Akron Falls in Dual Meet at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio – The Akron Swimming and diving program fell 173-126 in its third dual meet of the season against the Ohio Bobcats at the Ohio University Aquatic Center on Saturday.
Akron won 7-of-16 events as Abigail Daniel paced the squad with four gold medals while Madelyn Gatrall followed with three golds.
Daniel won three individual events, claiming the 100 and 200 Butterfly events with 54.42 and 2:02.42 times, respectively. She claimed her third gold in the 400-yard Individual Medley (4:28.09).
Gatrall posted first-place finishes in the 100 and 200 Backstroke events, clocking times of 55.46 and 2:01.25.
Daniel and Gatrall were joined by teammates Rebecca Reid and Madeline Dyer to claim the 200 Medley Relay title. Reid opened the race with a 26.35 backstroke time, Dyer added a 29.00 breaststroke time, Daniel went 24.36 in the Butterfly and Gatrall brought it home with a 23.24 freestyle time for a 1:42.95 team total.
Akron finished, first and second in 3-meter diving as Elizabeth Noble and Laurel Smith finished one, two with 285.30 and 274.43 scores. Off the 1-meter boards Akron claimed second through fourth positions as Paige Bush claimed the silver (255.53) followed by Smith (251.25) and Noble (244.88).
Also earning silver medals were, Reid (100 Free, 52.49) and Elle Couture (500 Free, 5:01.55) as well as the 200-yard Freestyle relay squad of Gatrall (24.01), Reid (23.80), Mia Latimer (23.66) and Brienne Trumpower (23.55) finished runner-up with a 1:35.02 time.
The Zips added four bronze medal performances by Latimer (100 Free, 52.51), Reid (200 Free, 1:54.32) and Astrid Halvorsen (1000 Free, 10:29.76. In addition, the 200 MR team of Latimer (27.09), Claire Cox (29.13), Hannah Trainer (25.78) and Trumpower (23.55) issued a third place showing with a 1:45.55 collective time.
Akron swimming and diving will be back in the water at Busbey Natatorium for the 2023 Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State University on Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16-18.
