Zips Split Second Day After Defeating Tarleton State 7-3

STEPHENVILLE, TX --The Akron Zips took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 7-3 win over the Tarleton State Texans on Saturday.
The Zips delivered 12 hits to generate the seven runs as sophomore Sophia Wygast led the Zips on a 3-fof-5 performance with a pair of RBI. Senior Alexis Campbell, junior Meagan Lee and sophomore Lily Sullivan followed with two hits each.
Sophomore Macy Walters (3-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (6-3). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, allowing one walk and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron got an RBI single from sophomore Sophia Wygast, scoring junior Meagen Lee from second base.
The Zips then held the Texans scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. which brought the Zips lead to 4-0.
Tarleton State narrowed Akron's lead to 4-2 before the Zips stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the sixth inning. The Zips notched two runs off of Tarleton State pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of sophomore Lily Sullivan.
The Texans fought back, closing the gap to 6-3 until Akron added some insurance in the seventh. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Wygast, bringing the score to 7-3 in favor of Akron. The score remained 7-3 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.

Game 1:Â Akron received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Zips fell to the Austin Peay Governors 8-3 Saturday.
In the batter's box, the Zips were led by junior Abigail Scheller, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double, two walks and three RBI. Sophomore Lily Sullivan put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Freshman Sydney also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
Sophomore Madie Jamrog (1-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Akron (5-3).
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 5-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Scheller.
The Zips kept the Governors off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fifth. Akron scored a run when Scheller drew a walk from senior Samantha Miener that scored sophomore Sophia Wygast, which tightened the Governors lead to 5-3. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Austin Peay added three runs to their tally on the way to an 8-3 final.
