Akron Never Trails in 2-1 Win Over Michigan State

SAN ANTONIO, Texas --The Akron Zips took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed on the way to a 2-1 win against the Michigan State Spartans at the 2025 UTSA Softball Roadrunner Classic.

Akron pounded out eight hits led by sophomore Morgan Sizemore with a 3-for-3 performance, including a double an RBI. Junior Meagan Lee followed with two hits (2-for-3), while junior Brooke Sivek and sophomores Sophia Wygast and Sydni Hoobler each added a base hit. Sivek and sophomore Haley Glass scored the Zips runs.

Sophomore Madie Jamrog (3-1) got the win for Akron (8-4). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Junior Brooke Sivek came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.

The Spartans failed to push any runs across before the Zips built on their lead in the fifth inning. Akron pushed across a run on sophomore Morgan Sizemore's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 2-0 in favor of the Zips. Michigan State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Akron still held on for the 2-1 win.

GAME NOTES

» Sizemore had three base knocks in the game for Akron.
» Akron's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed one run across.
» Akron took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
