Five Zips Record Multiple Hits in 10-5 Win Over Dayton

AKRON, Ohio - Five Zips recorded multiple hits in a thrilling 10-5 victory over the Dayton Flyers at Skeeles Field on Tuesday.
At the plate, the Zips saw Jack Poist, Max Bowman, Blake Bowen, Andrew Horvath and Caden Matlon all record two hits. Matlon added a double, a walk and three RBI while Bowen recorded a home run and three RBI.
Josiah Ross (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Akron (6-10). The right-hander went 0.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit. Brett Dietrich also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Poist came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 3-1. Akron picked up a pair of runs in the frame, which brought the score level at 3-3.
Dayton busted up the tie and grabbed a 5-3 lead moving into the seventh, when Akron grabbed the advantage at 7-5. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Bowen.
Akron kept the Flyers scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. The three-run frame for the Zips was punctuated by a two-run single off the bat of Matlon. bringing the Akron advantage to 10-5. The score remained 10-5 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.
