Bowman Leads Offense, Shaeffer Tosses 8 Strikeouts in Setback to Bowling Green

AKRON, Ohio --Junior Jared Schaeffer dominated on Friday, punching out eight Bowling Green hitters over 5.2 innings of work, but it was not enough as the Akron Zips lost to the Falcons 7-3.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Schaeffer (0-3) tossed 5.2 innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on 10 hits and walking two for Akron (6-11, 0-4). Senior Brett Dietrich also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.
In the batter's box, senior MAx Bowman led the way with a 2-for-3 performance, including a solo homerun, double, two walks, an RBI and two runs scored. Freshman Blake Bowen followed with an impressive performance, going 2-for-4 with a two-run bomb, a double, a walk and a pair of RBI with a run scored.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Akron plated two runs when freshman Blake Bowen left the yard with senior Max Bowman aboard.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the board in the eighth trailing 7-2. Akron picked up a run on Bowman's leadoff home run off of freshman Ty Roder, which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Falcons. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
