AZUSA, Calif. – Strong performances on the second day of the Bryan Clay Invitational as well as the Pacific Coast Invitational highlighted the efforts of the University of Akron track and field squad on Thursday (April 17).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The men's 4x100 relay team of junior Kemari Robinson (Indianapolis, Ind.), sophomore AJ Jordan (Columbus, Ohio), junior Tysean Baronette (Middletown, Del.) and sophomore Rennie Gittens, Jr. (Miami, Fla.) placed second in a time of 40.53.
• Redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) placed second in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 17-11.75 (5.48m).
• Sophomore Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) crossed the line third in the men's 400 meters in 48.03.
• The women's 4x100 relay squad of sophomore Ayanna Stafford (Columbus, Ohio), senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria), freshman Rukia Omulisia (Nairobi, Kenya) and senior Victory George (Norman, Okla.) finished fourth in a time of 46.23.
• Senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) eclipsed 12-11 (3.94m) to place sixth in the women's pole vault.
• Sophomore Titus Kirui (Eldoret, Kenya) crossed the line in a career-best time of 14:12.75 in the men's 5,000 meters, the third-fastest performance in outdoor program history.
• Sophomore Megan Hipple (Warren, Ohio) posted a career-best time of 16:42.42 in the women's 5,000 meters, the fourth-fastest effort in outdoor program history.

Akron is set to compete the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif., and Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va., on Friday (April 18).
