AKRON, Ohio – Sixteen top five performances highlighted the efforts of the Akron track and field team across four meets on Saturday (April 19).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Freshman Taye Gonzalez (Lewis Center, Ohio) bested the field in the men's 5,000 meters in 15:04.94, while sophomore Emil Stanford (Sunbury, Ohio) placed second in a career-best time of 15:07.27.
• Sophomore Kayla Sucharski (Galena, Ohio) won the women's 5,000 meters in 17:44.66.
• Sophomore Ryan Kamperman (Salem, Ohio) finished first in the men's discus with a career-best mark of 162-6 (49.53m).
• Freshman Bridget Bergen (Avon, Ohio) bested the field in the women's discus with a career-best mark of 141-5 (43.12m)
• Freshman Jadyn Towns (Berlin Heights, Ohio) placed second in the women's 1,500 meters in 4:54.63.
• Freshman Quinn Hopkins (Akron, Ohio) finished second in the men's 1,500 meters in a career-best time of 3:58.81.
• Senior Joy Nwokike (Benin City, Nigeria) crossed the line in 52.96 in the women's 400 meters at the Mt. Sac Relays.
• Sophomore Andrew Styles (Freeport, Bahamas) posted a time of 21.30 in the men's 200 meters.
• Redshirt senior Hunter Garretson (Newcomerstown, Ohio) eclipsed 18-0 (5.49m) in the men's pole vault to place second.
• Senior Cassidy Allen (Lakewood, N.Y.) recorded a career-best clearance of 13-5.25 (4.10m) in the women's pole vault to finish seventh.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of junior Vanessa Horn (Ludwigsfelde, Germany), freshmen Eve Clark (Euclid, Ohio) and Rukia Omulisia (Nairobi, Kenya) and Nwokike finished fourth in 3:43.39.
