Zips Finish Series Sweep of Western Michigan

AKRON, Ohio -- The Akron Zips completed a series sweep against Western Michigan on Easter Sunday with a pair of wins by scores of 6-4 and 9-1 at Lee R. Jackson Field.
GAME 1 | Akron 6, Western Michigan 4
Alexis Campbell led the Zips offense with a pair of extra base hits, dishing out two doubles on a 2-for-3 day and a run scored. Andrea Day followed with a 1-for-1 performance with two RBI on a double and a sacrifice flyout, while scoring twice.  Meagan Lee (2-for-3), Sophia Wygast (2-for-4), Brooke Sivek (1-for-4) and Lily Sullivan (1-for-3) added an RBI each.Â
Macy Walters (11-9) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (22-19, 9-7). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on 10 hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Akron scored twice, with one run coming across on S. Wygast's single.
The Broncos then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 2-1 until the Zips expanded their advantage in the fourth. S. Hoobler came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 3-1.
Western Michigan clawed back to tie the ballgame at three before Akron reclaimed a 4-3 advantage in the fifth inning. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of .
Akron held the Broncos without a run before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Zips picked up two runs off of Western Michigan pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Day, bringing the Akron advantage to 6-3. Western Michigan put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Zips still held on for the 6-4 win.

Lee and Morgan Sizemore each racked up three RBIs to assist with the 9-1 win in the series finale. Lee went 3-for-4 in the second game to bring her total for the day to 5-for-7. Sizemore went 1-for-1 with a pinch hit bases-clearing double, while Delaney Jenkinson 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.Â
Madie Jamrog (8-4) got the win for Akron (23-19, 10-7). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Sizemore.
The Zips then held the Broncos scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. Akron plated two runs off of Western Michigan pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Jenkinson, which brought the score to 7-0 in favor of the Zips.
Western Michigan narrowed Akron's lead to 7-1 before the Zips stretched the advantage to 9-1 in the sixth inning. The Zips notched two runs when a single from Lee brought home Jenkinson and B. Sivek. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as Akron coasted to the win.
