Akron Drops Twinbill to Dayton

AKRON, Ohio --The Akron softball team dropped a twin bill against the Dayton Flyers by scores of 1-0 and 9-7 on Wednesday at Lee R. Jackson Field as both game camedown to the final inning.
GAME 1 | Dayton 1, Akron 0
The Akron softball team fell late to the Dayton Flyers 1-0 in the first of a twin bill at Lee R. Jackson Field.
Meagan Lee had two of the Zips five hits as she went 2-for-4 in the front half of the doubleheader.Autumn Bailey, Lily Sullivan and Katie Cantrell provided the other hits for Akron, while Bailey added a stolen base.
Maddelynn Lee (3-4) took the loss in the circle for Akron (23-19, 10-7). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out one. Macy Walters started the ballgame and went four shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the first, when Sophia Wygast made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.

Akron fought to the last out as the Zips fell 9-7 in game two with the tying run at the plate.
The Zips distributed nine hits led by a pair of hits from Sydni Hoobler, Lily Sullivan and Andrea Day. Hoobler went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Sullivan and Day posted 2-for-4 performances. Day added a pair of RBI as did Meagan Lee on a 1-of-3 effort. Sullivan recorded an RBI and scored a run.
Haley Croyle (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Akron (23-21). Madie Jamrog was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 3.1 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 4-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Me. Lee drove in two runs for Akron with a single, that scored D. Jenkinson and S. Hoobler.
The Zips deficit expanded to 9-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. The Akron offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of A. Day, which brought the score to 9-7 in favor of the Flyers. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
