Zips Comeback to Defeat Kent State 8-7 on Saturday

KENT, Ohio - The Akron Zips scored three runs in the top of the ninth, all with two outs, to earn a come from behind 8-7 victory over Kent State on Saturday.
This was the first win for the Zips over the Golden Flashes since May 1, 2022 when Akron won 7-3.
Four Zips recorded multiple hits against the Golden Flashes. Max Bowman hit his second home run of the series and added two RBI. Andrew Horvath hit a home run and a double with one RBI. Evan Bottone and Jack Poist added two hits and one RBI each in the win.
Johnny Anservitz (2-2) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (14-28, 6-16). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Bowman put Akron on the board with a two-out solo home run off sophomore Jacob Bean.
The Golden Flashes then tied the ballgame at one before the Zips came back to reclaim their advantage in the second inning. Horvath came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron on a Sac Fly from Austin Lafferty which brought the Zips lead to 2-1.
Akron held Kent State without a run before building their lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning. The Zips added a run on Horvath's one-out solo home run off Bean.
Akron kept the Golden Flashes scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. Bowman's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Zips, bringing the Akron advantage to 5-1.
Kent State then mounted a comeback, taking a 7-5 lead heading into the ninth, when the Zips re-gained an 8-7 advantage. Bottone and Poist both hit two-out RBI singles while Bottone eventually came around to score the go-ahead run on a balk. The score remained 8-7 for the rest of the game, as the Zips held on for the win.
