Zips Sweep Kent State on Senior Day

AKRON, Ohio -- The Akron Zips swept a doubleheader from rival Kent State on Senior Day and the final regular season series of the year. Between games, the Akron softball program recognized a pair of seniors, #12 Autumn Bailey and #9 Alexis Campbell, prior to their final game at Lee R. Jackson Field.
GAME 1 | Akron 13, Kent State 2
The Akron Zips took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 13-2 win over the Kent State Golden Flashes on Sunday. The Zips issued 12 hits as four Zips had multiple hit performances. Sophia Wygast, Meagan Lee, Lily Sullivan and Andrea Day delivered a pair of hits each. Autumn Bailey recorded three RBI on a triple to left centerfield and Alexis Campbell registered a pair of RBI with a single to the same place.Â
Macy Walters (15-9) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (27-23, 14-9). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Akron got an RBI single from L. Sullivan, scoring Me. Lee from second base.
The Zips then held the Golden Flashes scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. A. Day came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 2-0.
Kent State clawed back to even the ballgame at two before Akron reclaimed a 5-2 advantage in the third inning. A. Bailey's bases-clearing triple scored all three runs in the frame for the Zips.
Akron kept the Golden Flashes without a run before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Zips scored eight runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of B. Sivek and a two-run single from A. Campbell, bringing the score to 13-2 in favor of Akron. The score remained 13-2 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.

Four Akron players collected at least two hits to help lead the Zips over the Kent State Golden Flashes 11-3 Sunday. The Akron offense was paced by Sophia Wygast with a 3-for-3 performance, including a single, double and homerun for 3 RBIs. Brooke Sivek, Meagan Lee and Andrea Day all added a pair of hits each as Lee hit a triple to drive in two runs. In addition, Autumn Bailey delivered a double for two RBIs.

Madie Jamrog (9-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (28-23, 15-9). The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the third inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of S. Wygast and a two-run triple from Me. Lee.
The Golden Flashes failed to push any runs across before the Zips built on their lead in the fifth inning. The Akron offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of A. Bailey, which brought the Zips lead to 11-3. The score remained 11-3 for the rest of the game, as Akron coasted to the win.
