Akron Falls to Miami (OH) to Open Series

OXFORD, Ohio - The Akron baseball team fell to the Miami RedHawks 9-5 on Friday.
At the plate, the Zips were led by Max Bowman, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Caden Matlon compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Austin Lafferty also chipped in for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI. Charlie Schebler added two hits and an RBI to the Zips' offense.
Dawson Tourney (2-5) came out of the bullpen for Akron (16-32, 9-19) and took the loss. Jack Fenton started the ballgame and threw four innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, with four walks and five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Akron got an RBI single from Schebler, scoring Lafferty from second base.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 3-1. Jack Poist came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which tightened the RedHawks lead to 3-2.
Akron kept the RedHawks off the board before rallying to snatch a 4-3 lead in the seventh. The Zips pushed two runs across on a two-run double off the bat of Bowman that brought home Evan Bottone and Poist.
Akron gave up the lead they built in the seventh, but got back on the board in the eighth trailing 5-4. The Zips scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lafferty, evening the score at 5-5. Miami (OH) then scored four times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 9-5 win.
