ZIps Sweep Doubleheader From Bulls, Glass and Gatti Combine for Nine RBIs

AKRON, Ohio -- The Akron Zips swept a doubleheader from the Buffalo Bulls on Saturday by scores of 5-2 and 9-2 as seven players hit .400 or better including a grandslam by Haley Glass and a pair of homeruns by Kenzie Gatti as the duo combined for nine RBIs at Lee R. Jackson Field.
GAME 1 | Akron 5, Buffalo 2
Haley Glass racked up five RBIs to help propel the Akron Zips past the Buffalo Bulls 5-2 in game one. Glass went 1-for-2 with a grand slam homer in the sixth and a sacrifice flyout for her five RBIs.
Katie Cantrell followed with a 2-for-3 performance from the plate with a run scored. She was the only Zips to record multiple hits in the game as Meagan Lee, Sophia Wygast, Lily Sullivan, Andrea Day and Morgan Sizemore all collected hits. Sullivan scored two runs.Â
Macy Walters (12-9) got the win for Akron (21-19, 13-3). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out six.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Lily Sullivan came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the fourth, but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 2-1. Akron got a grand slam from Glass to score all four of their runs in the inning, which brought the Zips lead to 5-2. The score remained 5-2 for the rest of the game, as Akron held on for the win.

Kenzie Gatti put together an outstanding outing in game two, hitting two homers to help propel the Akron Zips past the Buffalo Bulls 9-2.
Gatti went 2-for-4 at the plate, supplementing her two home runs with four RBIs. Delaney Jenkinson added to Gatti's awesome power-hitting performance by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs along with one walk. Sophia Wygast also chipped in for the Zips, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Madie Jamrog (8-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (22-19, 14-3). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on eight hits, allowing five walks and striking out seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the third inning. Akron scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Gatti.
The Zips then held the Bulls scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Akron scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Jenkinson, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Zips.
Akron held Buffalo without a run before expanding their lead to 7-2 the following inning.
Akron held the Bulls scoreless before their offense got back in action the next inning. The Zips drove in two runs when a single from Wygast scored Jenkinson and Meagan Lee, bringing the Akron advantage to 9-2. The score remained 9-2 for the rest of the game, as the Zips coasted to the win.
