KENT, Ohio - The Akron baseball team scored seven runs against the Kent State Golden Flashes on Wednesday, but fell by a final score of 12-7.

In the batter's box, the Zips were paced by Blake Bowen, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Prince DeBoskie put together a standout performance as well, going 2-for-5 with a double. Austin Lafferty also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

Josiah Ross (2-5) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (14-18). Jeremiah Newman was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Golden Flashes then rallied to score eight runs and take an 8-2 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the fourth. Akron picked up two runs, including one on a solo homer off the bat of Bowen, which tightened the Golden Flashes lead to 8-4.

Kent State expanded their lead to 12-4 before the Akron offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 12-7 in the ninth. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
