MAC Tournament: Akron Earns 6-5 Walk-Off Win Over Ohio

AKRON, Ohio — The No. 1 seeded Akron Zips used a late rally to earn a 6-5 victory over No. 4 seeded Ohio Bobcats in the opening round of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament at Firestone Stadium, on Thursday afternoon.
The Zips improved to 32-23 overall after overcoming an early deficit with clutch hitting and a complete-game performance from junior pitcher Madie Jamrog.
Akron answered Ohio's first-inning home run with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Meagan Lee came around to score on a passed ball before Katie Cantrell delivered an RBI double to right-center field to give the Zips a 2-1 lead.
After Ohio moved ahead 4-2 in the second inning, Akron responded with a decisive three-run fourth inning. Sydney Selker drew a walk and scored on a Delaney Jenkinson RBI triple to right-center field. Lee followed with an RBI single through the left side before Haley Glass doubled home another run to push Akron back in front, 5-4.
The Bobcats tied the contest in the seventh inning, but Akron answered immediately in the bottom half. Glass opened the inning with her second double of the game before Andrea Day lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Glass with the game-winning run.
Lee and Glass each recorded two hits to lead Akron offensively, while Cantrell, Jenkinson and Day each added RBIs. Glass finished with two doubles and an RBI, while Jenkinson added a triple, RBI and stolen base.
Jamrog went the distance in the circle to earn the win, striking out five over seven innings while helping the Zips advance in the MAC Tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the first inning. Akron pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from Katie Cantrell.
The Bobcats then rallied to score three runs and take a 4-2 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the fourth. which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Zips.
Ohio then rallied to tie the ballgame at 5-5 before Akron walked it off in the bottom of the seventh when Haley Glass came across to score.

» The Zips power output was led by Glass, who compiled two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Akron's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed three runs across.

» The Zips drew six walks from Ohio pitching.
» Glass led the Zips at the plate, going 2 for 4 with two doubles and an RBI.

The Akron Zips advanced to the semifinal round of the 2026 MAC Softball Tournament and is scheduled to play the winner of No. 2 Northern Illinois and No. 6 Western Michigan on Friday, May 8 at Noon.
