Home Runs From Chrisman and Mathison Leads Akron to 12-10 Victory over CMU

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.--The Akron Zips rallied twice late to take down the Central Michigan Chippewas 12-10 on Saturday.
Brody Chrisman led the Zips with a 4-for-5 performance that included two home runs, a double, three runs and five RBI. Gabe Mathison hit a grand slam, driving in four runs on a 1-for-4 day. Prince DeBoskie added one hit, two RBI, two walks and two runs in the win.
John Allen (2-4) got the win out of the bullpen for Akron (21-29, 11-18). The southpaw went 0.1 shutout innings without giving up a hit, no walks and striking out one. Carter Beck started the ballgame and went four innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking two and striking out two. Floyd McKenna threw two scoreless innings to secure his seventh save of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Chrisman put Akron on the board with a two-out solo home run off Tyson Potts.
After the Chippewas rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Zips came back to retake the lead in the fourth inning. Easton Amundson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 2-1.
Akron's lead had disappeared once the seventh inning came around and turned into a 6-2 Central Michigan advantage, when the Zips re-gained control at 9-6. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring seven runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Mathison and a two-run single from DeBoskie.
Akron surrendered the lead they built in the seventh, but got back on the scoreboard in the eighth trailing 10-9. The inning resulted in three runs for the Zips, all of them scoring on a three-run homer from Chrisman to left, bringing the score to 12-10 in favor of Akron. The score remained 12-10 for the rest of the game, as the Zips held on for the win.
