Akron Falls to Purdue to Begin Series

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Akron Zips fell to Purdue to begin the four-game series at Ting Stadium on Friday.
Evan Bottone and Andrew Horvath both hits doubles in the loss while Blake Bowen stole a base.
Jared Schaeffer (0-2) got the ball to start for Akron (3-5) and took the loss. David Moore was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing three hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the seventh, when senior Max Bowman made it 90 feet away from scoring with two outs.
GAME NOTES
» Akron pitchers faced 39 Purdue hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and five fly balls while striking out eight.
» Bottone and Horvath led the Zips at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a double.

Akron and Purdue continue the series on Saturday, March 1 with a double header set to begin at 1 p.m.
