Poist Hits for the Cycle as Akron Defeats Purdue, 10-9

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Akron Zips split a doubleheader with Purdue as senior Jack Poist put together an outstanding outing at the plate at Ting Stadium on Saturday.
Poist hit for the cycle in game two, including the game-winning home run to give the Zips a 10-9 advantage. He started the cycle with a double down the left field line for an RBI and followed with a triple to right center. In the sixth inning, Poist singled to right centerfield to push a pair of runs across the plate and walked his next at bat in the eighth.  He finished the game 4-for-5 with four RBI.
Senior Johnny Anservitz (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Akron (4-6). The right-hander went 2.2 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing three walks and striking out five. Freshman Jackson Frasure also made an impact on the mound for the Zips, throwing two scoreless innings while allowing two hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips scored in six different innings on the way to the win. After holding the lead two different times earlier in the ballgame, Akron broke a 9-9 tie and took the lead for good at 10-9 in the eleventh inning

GAME 1 --The Akron Zips fell to the Purdue 13-3 as Poist, led th offense with a 2-for-2 performance that included an RBI. Freshman Blake Bowen furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double. Junior Andrew Horvath also contributed for Akron, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
Junior Dawson Tourney (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Akron (3-6). Senior Jack Kelley started the ballgame and went five innings, surrendering three runs, one earned, on six hits, walking one and striking out six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Horvath's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Akron.
The Boilermakers then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-2 lead before the Zips got back on the board in the fifth. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Poist, which brought the score level at 3-3. Purdue then scored 10 times over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 13-3 win.
