Akron Splits Day Two, All Starters Reach Base in 8-4 Win Over Dayton

RICHMOND, Ky. --Akron got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Zips put eight runs on the board and defeat the Dayton Flyers 8-4 Saturday.
The Zips were paced by freshman Sydney Selker, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Lily Sullivan compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Senior Alexis Campbell also helped out for Akron, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
Freshman Maddelynn Lee (3-2) started in the circle and picked up the win for Akron (10-7). The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out one. Sophomore Mallory Herwerden also made an impact in the circle for the Zips, throwing 2.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Akron's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Campbell.
The Flyers failed to push any runs across before the Zips built on their lead in the third inning. Sophomore Hailee Sanchez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 5-0.
Dayton narrowed Akron's lead to 5-3 before the Zips stretched the advantage to 8-3 in the sixth inning. The Zips scored three runs, all of them coming on a three-run homer from freshman Sydney that scored junior Me. Lee and Sullivan. Dayton put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Akron still coasted to the 8-4 win.

GAME 2Â --The Akron Zips took a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning, but could not hang on and fell 7-4 to the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Saturday.
The Zips pounded out eight hits with four players having two hits each. Sophomore Sophia Wygast went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, while sophomore Delaney Jenkinson and freshman Sydney Selker unleashed doubles as part of their pair of hits. Jenkinson added an RBI. Junior Meagan Lee also went 2-for-4.
Sophomore Macy Walters (3-4) came out of the bullpen for Akron (9-9) and took the loss. Sophomore Madie Jamrog was a bright spot for the Zips, starting the ballgame and throwing 4.2 innings, giving up two runs, all earned, on three hits, with two walks and three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Freshman Andrea came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Zips then held the Colonels scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Akron scored twice on sophomore Sophia Wygast's two-run homer, which brought the Zips lead to 3-0.
Eastern Kentucky narrowed Akron's lead to 3-2 before the Zips stretched the advantage to 4-2 in the sixth inning. The Zips pushed across a run on sophomore Delaney Jenkinson's one-out RBI double. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Eastern Kentucky scored five times over the remaining one inning to grab the 7-4 win.
