AKRON, Ohio -Â The Akron Zips took a 6-3 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hang on and fell 8-6 to the Central Michigan Chippewas Saturday.
Evan Bottone led the Zips at the plate with a 3-for-5 day with two double among his three hits. Jack Poist added two hits with three RBI while stealing a base against Central Michigan on Saturday. Ian Pennington also had a multi-hit day with two hits.
David Moore (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Akron (9-25, 3-14). Jared Schaeffer started the ballgame and went seven innings, surrendering five runs, four earned, on six hits, walking none and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Andrew Horvath drove in two runs for Akron with a single, that scored Nicky Sackett and Max Bowman.
The Chippewas then tied the ballgame at two before the Zips came back to reclaim their advantage in the fifth inning. Akron scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Poist, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Zips.
Akron kept Central Michigan scoreless before building their lead to 6-2 the following inning. The Zips picked up three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of Poist. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Central Michigan scored six times over the remaining three innings to grab the 8-6 win.
