Akron Returns Home for Weekend Series against Western Michigan

AKRON, Ohio – The Akron Zips return to Lee R. Jackson Field for a three-game series against Western Michigan on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19.

The Zips split a doubleheader this week against the Miami RedHawks and look to add a few more league wins when they host the Western Michigan Broncos on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19 at Lee R. Jackson Field.

The Broncos lead the series 27-48, but the Zips won six of the last 10 meetings, including 2-of-3 last season and a two-game win streak. Akron dropped the first meeting in 2024 (3-2), but bounced back with a double header sweep (1-0 & 4-2) last year.
SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN BRONCOS (11-30, 5-11 MAC)
The Broncos enter the series with an 11-30 overall record and 5-11 in MAC play, and dropping four straight games to Ball State (4-3 & 14-4) and Bowling Green (8-0 & 4-0). The Broncos have three players batting above .300 as Tristen Head (.371) leads the way. Head leads the squad in doubles (7) and is second in hits (33), RBI (21), homeruns (6). Riley Dittmar is second in average (.370) but leads the team in Hits (47), runs scored (26), triples (3) and walks (15). Dittmar adds 12 RBI, six doubles and two homeruns, while Payton Kelly (.308) rounds out the top-3 hitters with 32 hits, 19 runs scored and 10 RBI.

Under third-year head coach Craig Nicholson leads the Akron in its 49th season of intercollegiate competition, posting a 20-19 overall record and 7-7 in league play. The Zips return 18 players from the 2024 squad and added seven newcomers to the 2025 roster.
The Zips have four players batting above .300 as Meagan Lee and Sophia Wygast lead the way with a .364 batting averages. Lee owns a team-best 47 hits in 129 at bats with 2 triples, 4 doubles and 9 RBI, while Wygast follows with 40 hits, and team-highs in homeruns (6) and RBI (30). Brooke Sivek (.325) and Alexis Campbell (.300) round out the top hitters. Sivek has 41 hits and a team-high 28 runs scored, while Campbell has 36 hits with 2 homeruns, 1 triple and 4 doubles, generating a 24 RBI.
