COLUMBUS, Ohio -Â Akron got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Zips fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes 11-5 Tuesday.
Charlie Schebler the Zips with a 2-for-3 performance. Akron got RBI from Evan Bottone, Andrew Horvath and Austin Lafferty
Josiah Ross (1-3) got the ball to start for Akron (13-27) and took the loss. Jack Fenton was a bright spot for the Zips, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.2 innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on no hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips were trailing 6-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. SHorvath came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron and get them on the board.
The Buckeyes expanded their lead to 9-1 before the Zips offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. which tightened the Buckeyes lead to 9-4.
Akron kept the Buckeyes off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 9-5 in the eighth. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Ohio State added two runs to their tally on the way to an 11-5 final.
