Zips Fall to Kent State to Open Series

KENT, Ohio -Â An explosive offensive output to begin the game was not enough for Akron on Friday as the Zips fell to Kent State 15-5.
Max Bowman and Caden Matlon both hit home runs against the Golden Flashes. Bowman had a two-run home run on his lone hit of the game in the first inning while Matlon sent a solo shot to left field. Jack Poist had a triple while walking twice.
Dawson Tourney (2-4) got the ball to start for Akron (13-28, 6-16) and took the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips got the scoring started early, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Akron's offense produced a three-run output that included back-to-back homers from Bowman and Matlon.
The Zips lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 7-3. Akron brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Charlie Schebler's single, which tightened the Golden Flashes lead to 7-5. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Kent State added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 15-5 final.

» Akron's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed three runs across.
» Akron pitchers faced 38 Kent State hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out five.
» The Zips drew six walks from Kent State pitching.
