Zips Split Doubleheader With Toledo To Win The Series

Jack Kelley and Johnny Anservitz combined to toss a shutout on Sunday as the Akron Zips blanked the Toledo Rockets 1-0.
At the plate, Evan Bottone led the way with a 3-for-4 effort while stealing two bases.
Kelley (2-1) started and picked up the win for Akron (9-22, 3-12), going eight shutout innings while giving up three hits, walking three, and striking out seven. Anservitz was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two to earn his third save of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips took the lead for good in the sixth, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Akron plated a run on a based-loaded walk by senior Jack Poist.

The Akron baseball team fell 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader against the Toledo Rockets on Sunday.
At the plate, the Zips were paced by Blake Bowen, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a walk.
Jared Schaeffer (0-6) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (8-22, 2-12). The right-hander went eight innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Akron managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Zips last got a runner on third in the sixth, when Evan Bottone made it 90 feet away from scoring with one out.
