Akron Out-Hits Cleveland State 6-5, Zips Falls 3-2

MURRAY, Ky. -- The Akron Zips dropped the opening pair of games of the Racers Classic, falling to Cleveland State (3-2) and Murray State (9-2) at Racer Field on Friday.
GAME 1 -- Despite picking up six hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Cleveland State, Akron was unable to push across more runs, as the Zips lost to the Vikings 3-2 Friday.
Sophomore Macy Walters (3-5) got the ball to start for Akron (10-10) and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Zips put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Akron got on the board thanks to senior Alexis Campbell's RBI double with two outs.
The Vikings failed to push any runs across before the Zips offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Junior Brooke Sivek came across to score the lone run of the inning for Akron, which brought the Zips lead to 2-0. The Zips were unable to hold the lead, as Cleveland State scored three times over the remaining two innings to grab the 3-2 win.
GAME NOTES
» Akron's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed one run across.
» The Zips out-hit the Vikings at a 6-5 clip.
» Akron pitchers faced 24 Cleveland State hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out one.

GAME 2. --Â Akron fell to Murray State Racers 9-2.
Zips scattered six hits by six different players led by senior Alexis Campbell went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Sophomore Madie Jamrog (4-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Akron (10-11).
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Zips first put runs on the board in the sixth inning. Akron scored twice, with one run coming across on Campbell's single. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as Murray State added three runs to their tally on the way to a 9-2 final.
