AKRON, Ohio - Ian Pennington and Jack Poist each racked up three RBI, but the Akron Zips fell to the Central Michigan Chippewas 11-7 on Friday.

Dawson Tourney (1-3) started and took the loss on the mound for Akron (9-24, 3-13). Jacob Beall was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out one.

Poist went 1-for-5 at the plate with a double in addition to his three RBI and Pennington put together a 1-for-2 day with a home run and a walk, supplementing his three RBI performance for the Zips. Evan Bottone compiled a 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Zips were trailing 8-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Akron got on the board thanks to Bottone's RBI double with one out.

The Zips kept the deficit at 8-1 before closing the gap further in the seventh. Akron scored twice on Pennington's two-run homer, which tightened the Chippewas lead to 8-3.

Central Michigan expanded their lead to 11-3 before the Akron offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 11-7 in the ninth. The Zips bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Poist. The Zips were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
